This little one was painted at a nearby town which is just large enough to have a substantial church. As a painter, you do realise that you can’t have the lights without the darks, and vice versa, and this scene really allowed me to play the two against each other. The other striking thing I noticed was that the lights were very warm in the sunlight, and the darks cooler in relation, giving me a great opportunity to keep things lively!

Painted almost entirely on location en plein air, with just a few minor touches in the studio.
