First I created a watercolour painting using different patterns and shapes, in blues, greens, aqua, black and gold. The bees were then hand-cut from this watercolour painting.
I then masked off a rectangle on a piece of heavy white card, that I wanted the bees to sit on, and splattered it with gold ink. The bees were then decoratively arranged in lines and attached to the card on tiny foam board plinths.
To add more three dimensionality I've angled the wings upwards, and framed the piece within a deep white box frame glazed with perspex.
