Exploring the Northwest has been a passion of mine since moving to this part of the U.S. nearly two decades ago. Last summer's road trip did not disappoint, as we were able to take in the West's majestic peaks, not only from the road, but hiking into the back country and experiencing Nature firsthand. For me, part of these experiences-- at least some moments and places in them-- demand to be captured with paint. A camera can only depict so many hues, and mine only grabs images. In my artist world, it is paint, especially oil paint-- of which I've become quite fond-- that captures impressions, mood, movement, the subtle colors hidden in shadows, the brilliance of high altitude sunlight bouncing off peaks, and how I've perceived it all. This stream, like a ribbon of blue, awarded this beautiful land its due.
