Original artwork description:

The next best thing to capturing kids being kids in photos, is taking those photos and creating a wire wall sculpture from them. Figurative still life in action. Here, we were all gathered along the curb awaiting the parade on a hot 4th of July in a small township in New Jersey. My son was sitting next to a little girl eating an ice cream cone. He spontaneously kissed her cheek. I hope I captured the gentleness of the kiss and her thoughts as she kept her eyes on the ice cream.

The resulting wire wall sculpture is a 37 by 36-inch welded wire wall creation. It is made of 5 mm thick (#9 gauge) low carbon steel wire that I bend by hand and weld in numerous spots to assure stability, then powder coat gloss black** with an extremely durable, weather resistant material that makes it suitable for outdoor installation and wet locations indoors. The sculpture is easily installed on a wall according to instructions I provide. It is designed to hang approximately 2 inches from the wall surface so that it projects a moving shadow. The piece is signed with a thinner wire.

I make wire wall sculptures for public, commercial, and residential locations. The wire pieces are the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. I make and remake a digital line drawing to emphasize only the essence and feel of the subject, then, like the poet who reviews every word, I re-examine every turn and curve as I bend the wire into a sculpture. The final installation, a solid line in space in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large wall without dominating the room. My work has been purchased by collectors from all over the world.
