Original artwork description:

This is an abstract expressionist painting. My primary source of inspiration is the urban environment, and the random assortment of marks, textures, colours, text and pattern one can find if you remain receptive to the world around you. This image is actually inspired by the side of a skip, which just shows that artists can find inspiration everywhere! From this source material, I build up my paintings in layers, making fresh decisions as I go about how to proceed. I intuitively build up my marks and colours in a way that creates something new, not just copying what I saw, and makes a composition and a whole that is a unique image. The process is such that the painting only emerges as I paint it, and the final piece is something impossible to envisage at the beginning.
