TITLE : The Weeping Sky
On a wistful day of dark skies and windswept water, a day when all the sadness of the world descends in cascades of inky-black rain, drenching all positive thought, a day when forgiveness seems almost unthinkable, the tiny islands of Rona and Eilean Tigh huddle together for comfort. They wait for the light of a soft, new dawn to wash over them and bring the promise of better days.
Rona and Eilean Tigh sit off the east coast of the Isle of Skye in the far north of Scotland, barren rocky islands with very little farmland. They were home at one time to a number of families who were herded there from the nearby island of Raasay by greedy landlords who wanted better land for their sheep. The tenacity and courage of these islanders gave them the strength to fight back, to regain their land on Raasay and to survive, against the odds, to bring their families to a better future.
About My Work
I am passionate about creating images of the landscape around Skye. The land, the people and the history are woven together to create a place of endless mystery.
I love working with luxury paper and canvas materials that hold their colours for a lifetime. For these special large prints of my work I use dreamy, light textured Canson Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.
About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI, their paper was used by Voltaire and Napoleon and the Montgolfier brothers used Canson paper to make the first hot air balloon. Canson paper was used by Picasso, Ingres, Chagal, Miro and many other artists. They have been making paper and canvas for photography since this art began over 150 years ago. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.
Other Sizes
This print is available in other sizes on canvas or paper. I am happy to take custom orders, just drop me a line.
A Note on Canvases
Canvases are unframed and unmounted, they need to be stretched or framed once you get them. They are matte varnished and come with 1.5 inch (4cm) gallery wrap or with white or dark coloured sides, just let me know which you prefer. Once ready, they are carefully wrapped in acid free tissue then shipped in a sturdy art tube to ensure safe delivery. All taxes and duties to be paid by the receiver.
