Additional information - This image is taken from the book 'English Journey’ which retraces the footsteps of Bradfordian author J.B. Priestley. Easington Colliery, a coal mine that had been in operation since 1899, faced closure in 1993, resulting in the loss of 1,400 jobs and a sharp decline in the local economy. Today, the land where the pit shaft headgear once stood has been transformed into a hub for small businesses and industrial units.
