THE STORY
With this artwork, my aim was to capture some very strong childhood memories of my family's old Calcutta house, whose red floors and colonial architecture remain fondly in my memory. Birthday parties were celebrated here, and the presence of my family's old snooker table, and the fireplace, form the strongest points of interest in my memory. The slight air of gloom in the artwork is due to the personal struggle I faced, and still face, remembering the time when this old house was pulled down.
THE PROCESS
This is primarily a screen print (or serigraph), made complete by hand, from the drawing to making the positives to the printing itself. The fireplace has been embossed by deep etching on a zinc plate, and the letters on the banner have been hand coloured.
