I see each of my paintings as a section, or detail, of something that could continue beyond the frame; in the same way that a map represents just a small section of a continual landscape. My recent works are painted onto a variety of shapes of plywood. Each painting is a fragment that acts as a cut-out section of a map of an imagined landscape, as if offering slices, or portals, into other worlds.
This circular painting is one of those puzzle pieces. It is made with layers of varnish and oil paint. It can be hung from the string attached on the back, and has 4 small blocks of plywood attached to the back so that it will hang flush with a 2 cm shadow line around the whole painting. The work has a highly reflective surface.
