Meet the team: Mimi

Hi all,

Welcome to our ongoing Q&A feature, where we introduce a member of the Artfinder team to our community. This time, we speak with Mimi, our new Curator.

Q: Could you start by introducing yourself to our community?

Hello, I'm Mimi! I joined Art Republic, and have been a part of the curation & artist teams at both companies. At Art Republic, my focus was on artist management, developing portfolios, and working on new releases and editions. Now, I curate the latest works on Artfinder and bring our community the latest collections.

Q: How long have you worked with Artfinder and what is your role in the company?

I've been with Artfinder for 6 months, working in the Curation & Marketing team. We curate new collections, assist artists in developing their portfolios, and bring fresh ideas for new campaigns on the site..

Q: What have been your highlights of working with Artfinder so far?

Joining a new team and discovering a plethora of new artists has been fantastic! There is so much fantastic work on the website and it's great to see so many incredible artists in one place. I love finding emerging talent, and logging on each day to see new works is a real treat. Getting to know the Artfinder team, their dedication to the platform, and their support for artists and customers has also been incredibly inspiring.

Q: Do you come from a creative background? Do you engage in creative activities yourself?

Absolutely! I studied photography at university after completing a foundation course in fine art, and I find creative expression very therapeutic. Photography and art have played a crucial role in my mental health journey. My family is also very creative, from musicians to painters, which has encouraged me to embrace my artistic side. I still shoot photos and enjoy sketching abstract observational pieces whenever I can, though finding the time is another matter!

Q: What does working for a B Corp mean to you?

Being part of a company that prioritises social and environmental responsibility is amazing. It's always a boost to see how many trees we've planted at the end of the month!

Q: What do you like doing in your spare time?

I love traveling and appreciating different landscapes and architecture, as well as people-watching—all of which feed into my photography. My absolute bliss state is sitting in a park (with some sunshine preferably), listening to music, and being completely immersed in nature. I also enjoy visiting exhibitions and going to gigs; I find discovering new music as exciting and rewarding as finding new artists to work with.

Q: The past few years have been challenging with world events such as Covid and the War in Ukraine. How do you look after your mental health when going through difficult times?

My family is incredibly important to me, and we're a tight-knit group that I’m very grateful for. They're my go-to when I need a boost. I also find music and art incredibly therapeutic, so when I need to switch off, I watch documentaries and biographies. These always help me gain perspective on other people's lives and experiences.

Q: If you could take only three items with you to a desert island, what would they be?

Ooh this is a tough one! I think I would have to take a telescope instead of a camera since the batteries would probably run out. I'd also need something to record my thoughts onto as my mind can get quite busy, so I'd take some pen and paper. Lastly, I think it would be rude not to bring some music, so I'd have to bring one of my favourite records, RAM by Paul McCartney.

Q: Finally, do you have any message for our community?

It's been fantastic getting to meet some of you so far and I look forward to our continued collaboration together this year!
