Today, we chat with one of our amazing painters, Niyati Jiwani.
Can you introduce yourself, where you are from and how long you have been with Artfinder for?
Hi! I am Niyati Jiwani and I am based in Atlanta GA, USA.
In just a short sentence, how would you describe/summarise your work?
As an artist, I regard myself as an abstract genre artist. My artwork depicts an expressive and vibrant upshot. In a nutshell, I describe my art as emotive and visually impactful.
What influences you and your work?
Apart from daily experiences, nature and music plays a vital role which helps me to express my feelings and emotions onto the canvas.
What does your creative process involve?
My process commences with an open-ended mindset. It allows me to follow the leads of my colours on the canvas. As a poet gets engaged in his poetry while composing, my art flows on the canvas, comprising of vibrant and subtle colours. The brush rules my mind, body and soul. I get enslaved to my brush and colours. Led by the brush, I use washes, marks and textured layers, which enhances and fills my work with depth and hidden nuances , disclosing the hidden message by looking closely and engaging with the art piece. Each painting is a journey for me and I want to spread my wings with ambiguity.
Have you changed as an artist over time?
I started my journey as an artist with painting figurative, using oils, acrylics and experimenting with new techniques, different styles and materials. Being an explorer, I also worked with abstract atmospheric landscapes. Further, I embarked on a journey which I had never discovered in the past. While making abstract paintings I figured out that my process subconsciously incorporated all of my yesteryears knowhow. Evolution of self expressed the core in my art process.
What’s your favourite artwork you created and why?
All of my artworks are favourites but I have a special place for the painting named "Cosmic connection" As I mentioned that I love nature, I also love water world. The painting features a vibrant and colourful abstract background with hues of blue, depicting a playful scene of dolphins at play. The colours blend together to create a dreamy atmosphere, as if the sky and sea were merging in harmony.
What do you think is the role of art/artists in society?
Art and artists wield transformative influence, challenging conventions, sparking reflection, and fostering societal evolution. Their work fosters empathy, dialogue, and advocacy for social justice, driving profound shifts in attitudes, values, and structures, shaping a more equitable and compassionate world.
What advice do you have for emerging artists looking to make a living out of their art career?
For emerging artists: prioritize consistency in creating and promoting your work. Cultivate a distinct style, build a strong online presence, network within the art community, seek opportunities for exhibitions, collaborations, and sales, and always value your artistic integrity.
