Our community of artists is the core foundation of Artfinder. With such a vast community based in all corners of the world, we wanted to help them share more about their artist journey, their artistic process and technique and what inspires them. Today, we chat with one of our amazing painters, Ekaterina Prisich.
Can you introduce yourself, where you are from and how long you have been with Artfinder for?
My name is Ekaterina Prisich. I am an artist born in Kazakhstan and started my career as a graphic designer. Education and work experience in design have helped me a lot in my development as an artist. And in 2020, I completely immersed myself in the world of painting, then happily joined the Artfinder team of artists in 2021.
In just a short sentence, how would you describe/summarise your work?
I am an artist in love with nature and inspired by its shades and textures.
What influences you and your work?
I am influenced by all my experiences interacting with the world around me, but nature occupies a special place in my art. This is a huge source of inspiration for me, natural elements are always present in my paintings. Even if I depict people or animals, they are always shown in symbiosis with the plant world of nature.
What does your creative process involve?
I am always in search of creative ideas and observe what is happening around me, noticing harmonious colour solutions and compositions of elements. This way I accumulate a base of ideas for my future works, and then create sketches. After that I work on canvases. I also sometimes paint garden compositions of plants from life in the greenhouse.
Have you changed as an artist over time?
I am constantly looking for new ways to express myself as an artist. This concerns both new techniques in my work and options for interacting with the audience of my art. For example, I previously enjoyed being a reclusive artist, focused on working in the studio and only showing my work online. And now there is a desire to exhibit my art more often also offline, to participate in fairs and exhibitions. So we can say that I am gradually changing as an artist, trying new things.
What’s your favourite artwork you created and why?
One of my favourite artworks is Pensive Mood. In this painting, the girl is surrounded by natural elements, a wreath, branches in the background, a floral pattern on the kimono. This is how I like to depict people inextricably from natural details. All these things help create the mood and slightly reveal the heroine’s inner world.
What do you think is the role of art/artists in society?
I think art serves many functions. It is a reflection of the culture of society, illustrating all the significant processes occurring around. Art helps to draw attention to certain topics. And also it simply gives aesthetic pleasure from admiring the works.
What advice do you have for emerging artists looking to make a living out of their art career?
I would advise them not to give up when it seems that nothing is working out and inspiration has left them. At times like these, it is important to switch to other areas of life and replenish your resources. Do something that still pleases and fills you, besides creative activity. The main thing to remember is that inspiration ALWAYS comes again and you need to gain strength and be ready for this moment.
