Our community of artists is the core foundation of Artfinder. With such a vast community based in all corners of the world, we wanted to help them share more about their artist journey, their artistic process and technique and what inspires them. Today, we chat with one of our amazing painters, Amita Dand.
Can you introduce yourself, where you are from and how long you have been with Artfinder for?
Hi, I am Amita, an Indian artist. I have been with Artfinder since 2017.
In just a short sentence, how would you describe/summarise your work?
My artwork showcases stunning water lily ponds and vibrant sunflower fields, skilfully combining realism with dreamlike elements to create a truly unique and captivating experience.
What influences you and your work?
My main source of inspiration comes from two factors. Firstly, I have always been deeply influenced by the works of the great Claude Monet and his beautiful impressionist style. And secondly, I draw inspiration from the natural world around me.
What does your creative process involve?
My creative process involves lots of colours, free-flowing brush strokes, layers of colours and textures. I allow my intuition to guide my brush strokes. I try to push boundaries, by embarking on abstract compositions that blur the lines between reality and imagination.
Have you changed as an artist over time?
Yes, I feel my art has evolved over the time and change is inevitable.
What’s your favourite artwork you created and why?
I recently created a beautiful water lily pond named "Awakening Heart". My passion lies in painting reflections of the sky in water, and this time, I added a tinge of orange to the evening sky reflection. I am thrilled with the way it turned out and can't wait to create more masterpieces like this one.
What do you think is the role of art/artists in society?
I firmly believe that art possesses the power to uplift the mood of individuals. Art has the ability to inspire and motivate people, and can serve as a gateway to escape from the harsh realities of life to a more dreamy and happier place.
What advice do you have for emerging artists looking to make a living out of their art career?
Practice practice and more practice and not giving up. Believe in yourself and your art.
