About Junija (Yuna) Galejeva

  • Biography
Hello, I'm Junija (Yuna) Galejeva, a painter and musicologist, based in Vilnius, Lithuania, where I work as an editor for the national radio program LRT Klasika and lecture on the history of baroque opera at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. I'm used to hearing from people that they see music in my paintings. As a musicologist, I know the language of music "from within," and I approach painting with a musician's mentality. That's probably why abstraction appeals to me more. It is important to me to keep the artwork open to interpretation by the viewer so that there is something new to see each time. Just as we listen to music, we hear it differently each time and it is always very personal. I strive to make the painting dynamic, with a musical movement that expresses a flow of time and thought.
But it is not only music that inspires me. Rather, music is a way of thinking. I am inspired by nature, literature, theatre, exhibitions, philosophy, psychology, science fiction, and myths. It enables me to view the world more broadly, as though from the side, to find some really important things in daily life—beauty, ideas, thoughts and emotions—that purify the soul. The main goal is to express thoughts and feelings, to convey an emotional state and to evoke associations.
I do my paintings in oils, acrylics mainly on canvas. Halftones, nuances of colour, and the ability of colours to express emotions are very important to me. As well as spontaneity and freedom of brushstrokes. I like soft, meditative brushstrokes and thin layers that connect and overlap. Colour is the protagonist of all my paintings. Colours, rhythms and lights are free from material objects. I like the repetitive patterns. The pulsation of colours and lights. It sounds like minimalism (minimal music). Unfocused elements help to reflect the eye, making the viewer look more inward, into their soul, than outward.
I use both soft and bold, expressive brushstrokes. It depends on the concept. The technique always serves an idea. I cannot say that I only pick up the brush when something has inspired me or "hit me." I feel the urge to paint in my right hand and somewhere in the scruff area all the time, and if I don't paint for more than three weeks, I get irritable or melancholic. It's only when I paint that I feel alive.
I graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (master's degree), Savickas Art School, and Kunigunda's Dineikaitė's painting studio "Baltas kubas." I participate in charity activities and group exhibitions as a member of the Lithuanian group of painters "Devyni vėjai."
I have so far participated in over 60 exhibitions in

    Event: SOUL-Tsukumogami

    Dates: 27 Nov 2024 - 3 Dec 2024

Venue: MAG ART GALLERY, 2.10.16 Higashitenma Kitaku, Osaka Japan ZIP 5300044

The Japanese word "tsukumogami" (付喪神) refers to a specific concept in Japanese
mythology and culture: literally translated, "tsukumogami" means "spirit hidden in objects." The exhibition “SOUL-Tsukumogami" celebrates not only art but also the secret life of everyday objects, offering spaces for pure contemplation and reflection. The presented works, created by carefully selected artists, use their unique visual language to offer the audience special visions and profound inspirations, inviting prolonged reflection on the uniqueness and intrinsic meaning of things that are often taken for granted.

    Event: HAZE

    Dates: 21 Oct 2024 - 3 Nov 2024

Venue: Galleria Tilde, Via Giuseppe Pipitone Federico 48, Palermo, Italy

A term that evokes fog, both as an atmospheric condition and as a metaphor for an enveloping and elusive emotional state. In the artistic realm, Haze represents not only a blurred vision of the world but also a mental condition where thoughts and emotions remain concealed, hidden within the mind and invisible to others. This "fog" becomes a powerful expressive medium, particularly suited to abstract styles, where contours dissolve, and reality is transfigured into rarefied and indistinct forms. From a psychological perspective, Haze becomes a representation of a perceptual alteration that obscures the clarity of thoughts and emotions. It is the state where the unconscious takes over, where dreams, memories, and repressed desires emerge inambiguous and undefinable forms. In this sense, art that explores Haze becomes a journey into the depths of the mind, a symbolic representation of what lies hidden beneath the surface of consciousness.

    Event: Contemporary

    Dates: 24 Jul 2024 - 5 Aug 2024

    Event: SOUL-Tsukumogami

    Dates: 11 Jun 2024 - 16 Jun 2024

Venue: Uma to Shishi Gallery and Shop, Inogari Building, 1-10 Minami 22 Jonishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo

The Japanese word "tsukumogami" (付喪神) refers to a specific concept in Japanese mythology and culture: literally translated, "tsukumogami" means "spirit hidden in objects." This term refers to inanimate objects that, after a certain time, around a hundred years, transform into spirits. The figure of "tsukumogami" has deeply influenced Japanese culture, appearing in folk tales, works of art, theater, and even in modern manga and anime.
"SOUL-Tsukumogami" aims to be a starting point for a careful reflection on the relationship between humans and the things that surround them. Art itself is a "thing" - an "object" that possesses a soul and expresses it to the viewer. The exhibition will give artists the opportunity to express themselves on the concept of spirituality and the connection that exists between them and their works.

    Event: THINKING TO THE FUTURE

    Dates: 6 Mar 2024 - 16 Mar 2024

Venue: 3F Art Gallery, 58 Rue des Trois Frères, 75018 Paris An

An Aboriginal proverb recites the following words: "Take care of the Earth and the Earth will take care of you, destroy the Earth and the Earth will destroy you", an important thought from which to start for careful reflection. Taking care of the environment is a topic of great importance and extremely current, how can we talk about sustainability and how can we be sustainable? Surely the first step to protect the environment is to know it and get as close as possible to Nature, how often do we come into contact with it? The selected artists will have the opportunity to get closer to the elements of nature, representing them as they see fit and how they interpret the environment, choosing the tools they deem best. Colors and materials, whatever they are, will be the protagonists together with the ideas of each artist. An exhibition that pays attention to sustainability, to the sensitivity of the artists and the observer, where art becomes the starting point for careful reflection.

    Event: Melancholy

    Dates: 12 Oct 2023 - 19 Oct 2023

Venue: BURO, Via Sant'Isaia, 57d, 40122 Bologna BO

Curated by VANESSA VITI & ELISABETTA ELIOTROPIO

“Melancholy men, of all others, are the most witty.” Aristotele

Sitting with his hand holding his head and looking down at the ground. The diagnosis is clear, it is the 'melancholic'. It is revealed through these details, always the same despite the ages and disparate backgrounds. Artists, poets, musicians always intent on observing the melancholic and yet they themselves often perfectly impersonate the role. [...] Melancholy invokes an emotional sphere that is as impervious as it is fascinating, in which everyone has a way of reflecting a side of his or her existence. A psychophysical character that has always been the character considered closest to the artist. [...]
On the occasion of the exhibition Melancholy we are curious to see the effects of melancholy by international artists. To ultimately come to recognize, in the postures and put-on looks of others, a bit of ourselves.

    Event: Noon-chi

Noon-chi, curated by Beatrice Cordaro, aims to bring together Eastern and Western art, blending different stylistic languages and artistic philosophies.

Biography
