About Yoshie Tsuzuki
Biography
When viewing artwork, a human’s heart is impacted in various ways, both large and small. It can be said art is very good way to convey ones passion directly.
In my pieces, I use a technique called “Nihonga” which employs materials that have come down to us from ancient times in Japan and East Asia. The technique requires the use of Japanese ink and mineral pigments mixed with animal glue and water.
The materials that are close to nature help me when I want to convey raw emotions and some kind of breathing. They sometimes change their conditions like living creatures, and I can even feel like they are connected to myself. Once exposed to the weather, these works will return to the soil, just like our physical bodies.
What is it that doesn’t change even if the physical body has disappeared?
There are various types of benefits, but the essence of the gift that art brings to people is invisible. An artist creates art, presents it to the outside world, and takes the viewer into the world of her imagination. Once there, each is connected to something from the inside.
Art has the power to remind us that we are all connected to others in places other than the world in front of us, whether our reality is filled with tragedy or with peace and calm.
That is what I want to convey through my art.
