Biography
Biography
Walter Pancheri, born in 1962, studied at the art school in Graz, and
in 1987 he made the master craftsman's certificate. He lives and works
in a Dolomite valley in northern Italy, which is known for the local
tradition of wood carving. He is part of the lively and multi-faceted
sculptor scene, which is rooted in a centuries-old tradition, out of
which he has developed its own signature. Until 1994 Walter Pancheri
worked in the workshop of his father Flavio. Already his grandfather
had been a wood sculptor. Since 1995 he has been active in Austria,
Italy, Germany with exhibitions and fairs and is represented in
numerous private collections and public spaces. He has received
several awards for his reliefs.
Working technique
Walter Pancheri developed his own technique, which he uses since 2012:
he prints his own photographs on reliefs in linden wood. According to
the motif, he creates a relief on which the mirrored photo is printed.
He applies a layer of glue to which the printed side is applied. After
complete drying, he sands down the paper so that only the printer ink
stays. Then he applies a layer of wax to the surface. The white patina
in some areas are remains of the paper.
