'Familiar Strangers' Little Nomad Gallery, Keighley Arts Hub

Come along to view paintings, prints, reproductions and a few of my Daily Drawings sketchbooks! Little Nomad Gallery, Keighley Arts Hub 5 November - 10 December 2022 "Vivid, gestural oil paintings display a fascination with facial expressions. Viv has the help of unwitting accomplices she ‘captures’ from feature films and TV to see these fleeting expressions. Viv chooses her subjects from familiar dramas, aiming to portray a key moment of anticipation or reaction, that viewers will find puzzling and relatable Viv comments in her work on getting emotionally entangled with artificial dramas. Painting becomes a useful way of reusing the headspace that these fictional people take up Viv often arranges many paintings as an immersive wall of images, or in small groups as intimate as family snapshots on a mantelpiece. She has displayed in old industrial mills, reclaimed empty shops, museum spaces and galleries further afield in Sheffield and London"

FLUX Exhibition at The Design District - June 2022

So delighted to be back with FLUX again for such an exciting event! 50 artists showcased - including me! Love my paintings on the cool grey concrete - the colours and highlights are even more vibrant and the multiple moods create a great feature wall! The Private View was overflowing with music, performance artists, and visitors old and new. There's a taste of just some of the works to be seen in this short slideshow I made for YouTube. More photos and info over on my website blog.

    Beginners Guide to Portraiture

    Beginners Guide to Portraiture

A very enjoyable time yesterday at Bowery Visual Arts delivering a beginner's guide to drawing portraits. I gave a brief talk about my paintings and the processes behind their creation. Then we looked at Daily Drawings and the mark making techniques I use. We experimented with pens to create similar definition, patterns and textures and lighting effects. Finally we developed an observed portrait using a range of these techniques. Thanks to all the participants for their positivity, enthusiasm and willingness to experiment, and Bowery for hosting. I'll be presenting another session, Introduction to Painting on 3 September. You can book by calling the gallery, or online. My joint exhibition with Helen Field is on to view until 20 May. Drop in for 'A Splash of Colour' - and a lovely coffee too! (The YouTube video tour gives a flavour of what to expect) More exhibition news to follow next week. Keep safe, and thanks for looking.
