Event: Thoughts are free, Uwe Fehrmann - painting
Dates: 3 Sep 2019 - 23 Sep 2019
2019 | Education Center BStU branch Schwerin | The thoughts are free | Solo exhibition
In the fall of 1984, Uwe Fehrmann fled to the heavily guarded embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Prague. After negotiations between Bonn and East Berlin, Fehrmann received an assurance that he would be allowed to leave the country, but ultimately had to return to the GDR. There he is interrogated for hours by the Stasi.
In his picture cycle “Thoughts are Free,” Fehrmann deals with recent German history against the backdrop of these experiences. It addresses surveillance and oppression in the GDR, but also overcoming lack of freedom and dealing with the past. Files from the Stasi records archive complement the exhibition.
Event: 13. Schau der 1000 Bilder | Sparkassen-Arena
Dates: 21 Sep 2018 - 23 Sep 2018
Around 100 artists show their works at this “Show of 1000 Pictures”, are present in public for three days, are available to talk, draw attention to themselves, advertise their course offerings and present their projects. At the same time, the BBK-SH will give project spaces, galleries, cultural associations and cultural associations space to introduce themselves to the public.
In this form, the event will be reformulated and repositioned. The “Show of 1000 Pictures” is unique in its kind and is appreciated nationwide. Thanks to the low stand rent, artists who primarily work on projects and interventions can also take part in a “fair”. Our goal is to offer the visual artists in Schleswig-Holstein an exhibition format that introduces them to a large audience (approx. 4,000 visitors from all over Schleswig-Holstein in three days!). We establish direct contact between the public and the artists, which can otherwise usually only be achieved by opening the individual studios.
Event: 24th art exhibition NATURE - HUMAN
Dates: 16 Sep 2018 - 14 Oct 2018
Wernigerode/Braunlage. The 24th art exhibition “NATURE – HUMAN” casts its shadows ahead. This year's art exhibition NATURE - HUMAN will show 62 works from the fields of painting, graphics, photography and sculpture/sculpture under the patronage of Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Olaf Lies from September 16th to October 14th in Sankt Andreasberg.
As the press office of the Harz National Park reports, an expert jury put together this year's exhibition NATURE - HUMAN from around 327 applications from professional artists of international origin, including from Russia, Iran, South Korea, Ireland, Canada and Japan). The exhibition is taking place for the 24th time at various locations in the Upper Harz mountain town and national park community of Sankt Andreasberg.

Dates: 14 Nov 2017 - 14 Dec 2017

Event: 63rd State Show
Dates: 25 Nov 2016 - 26 Feb 2017
The concept of these juried exhibitions is not only to provide a picture of the Schleswig-Holstein art scene, which includes the coexistence of different generations, but also to present local art in the most diverse regions of the country by changing the exhibition locations.
After the Stadtgalerie Kiel last presented the 57th state show in its rooms in 2010, the BBK Schleswig-Holstein regional association is now a guest with the 63rd edition, with the most current works by members and guests of the association.
A jury selects the works and a representative cross-section of artists from the northernmost region of Germany is presented in all their diversity.
Event: Paintings from Uwe Fehrmann
Dates: 27 Oct 2015 - 28 Oct 2015
Exhibition
Event: Still waters - transparencies
Dates: 3 May 2015 - 4 Jul 2015
Paintings of great intensity in terms of content and color can be seen from Sunday, May 3rd at Anja Es in the Trinkkurhalle in Timmendorfer Strand. Uwe Fehrmann, who completed his artistic training in the GDR, fled via the Prague embassy in 1984 and subsequently dealt with the history of the GDR and reunification, shows works from this thematic cycle. Influenced by the Leipzig School with artists such as Werner Tübke and Bernhard Heisig, Fehrmann's works are strongly classified as magical realism. They show people in their environment and in the tension between East and West German identity.
Since 2013, Fehrmann has been developing techniques to break up the realistic image themes and is becoming increasingly abstract. In his new works he aims to make the increasing overlap between the real and virtual worlds visible. The result is an extremely colorful, intense expression.
Event: Elektropolis – Berlin, a metropolis between light and industrialization
Dates: 4 Jul 2014 - 30 Jul 2014
Since the mid-19th century, Berlin has had a dense architectural heritage from the electrical industry. No other industry has had such a decisive influence on Berlin's economic, socio-cultural and political life as the electricity industry. The concentration of up-and-coming international companies such as AEG, Siemens or OSRAM, their dynamic development and the close relationship with engineering and technical sciences have given Berlin the reputation of an “Electropolis Berlin”.
The State Monuments Office maintains the architectural and technical monuments of this heritage and has drawn attention to its potential as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in numerous events in recent years. The Werner-Viktor Toeffling Foundation is honoring this initiative in this year's Berlin City Impressions competition - today in the visual arts and, together with the Berlin State Archives and the State Monuments Office, is presenting an exhibition with paintings by Berlin artists Uwe Fehrmann...

Dates: 7 Sep 2012 - 2 Nov 2012
2012 | Education Center BStU Berlin - The Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic (former Gauck and Birtler Authority), solo exhibition
Thoughts are free
Solo exhibition in the BStU Education Center, September 7th, 2012 to November 2nd, 2012, vernissage on September 6th, 7 p.m
"Thoughts are free" - they really are - not if they are prevented from communicating by dictatorship or self-censorship. Uwe Fehrmann managed to free himself (escape from the GDR via the Prague embassy) and his thoughts (through artistic processing) from isolation. Parts of his oeuvre are highly political, but also critical of society as a whole.
His paintings show German-German problems that are both self-critical and depicted with a touch of irony. What is remarkable here is the subtle nature of the debate, as it goes far beyond national and time-limited concerns.

Biography
My name is Uwe Fehrmann and I was born in Berlin in 1962. I was drawn to painting as a child and began sketching my surroundings and experimenting with colors at an early age. These early experiences laid the foundation for my later work as an artist.
My creative process is often characterized by intuition and spontaneity. I let my inner world guide me and try out different techniques. I often start with an abstract sketch and then work in layers of color to create depth and texture. It's a dance between control and letting go, where I always incorporate surprising elements into my work.
During the creative process, I create my own world in which I can develop freely. Painting is a way for me to connect with my emotions and make my thoughts visible. It is a passionate dialog between me and the canvas in which I constantly discover new facets of my creativity.
My aim is to create a connection with people. If viewers look at my works and find a certain peace and harmony in them, then I have achieved my goal. I want to evoke emotions and invite the viewer to immerse themselves in my world. Everyone can find their own interpretations and identify with my works.
