About Stephen Webb

  • Biography
The passion to discover exactly what I am capable of. To surprise myself - the true originality - both as origin and original. Truth is it just gives me the hard and righteous horn! To dance amoungst the colours and the line.

Islamic art. Most of this work originates from an encounter with the islamic geometric tradition displayed in the great monuments of Al Andalus, The Alhambra and the great mosque of Cordoba. The sacred fire encoded in these abstracts inspired me to believe that here was a journey to be had. Also that there was a long tradition of abstract art outside the western tradition worth exploring. Now I have begun to explore more 20th century art I have found these influences everywhere.

None of these works mean anything, there is no secret to decode. Their significance is direct, lying in their ability to provide a purely visual experience with a profound effect. No one asks you to explain the taste of chocolate. Don´t ask what it is, but what it does.

My painting of a klanger in which I decided to use all the colors with a brutal impressionist vision. I believe fingers were also employed.
