About Stefania Di Filippo

  • Biography
Stefania Di Filippo visual artist I was born in Rome, where I currently live and work. In love with the "beautiful", I started my career as a fashion stylist, following my family’s tradition and cultural heritage, as my father was a passionate master tailor, owner of an important and well-known men's and women's fashion atelier. Over the time, refusing the homologation to which contemporary society obliges us, a deep need for a return to the origins has strongly emerged in me, so that I began to create artistic works through a backward path that allowed a gradual rediscovery of my personal identity. To create an authentic and passionate artistic work, full of energy and emotions, we have to go through the process of self-discovery and come face-to-face with ourselves, that’s why every time I get rid of my superstructures in order to find my true essence. I love to use different means of expression in an experimental way and to change completely the color palette and the language of expression for each research project by choosing materials that have their roots in my family past, between experimentation and tradition.
“All my artistic research is a wonderful and mysterious journey within myself.”
Gianluca Marziani, curator and art critic, writes about me: “Stefania Di Filippo's work underlines a maturity between experimentation and memory, oriented towards internal journeys, subjective emotions, the ways in which body and context interact”.
The artistic research "Looking for the Infinite" was conceived out of a flight experience and of the vision from a hot-air balloon of the morphological area of Cappadocia (Turkey). Experience that brought me back to when I was a child and to the great sense of wonder typical of childhood. This experience has been very stimulating and it is allowing me to investigate and create many works with different types of artistic language.

Painting, like poetry, is the art of creating souls to keep company with other souls.
