About Stanislava Cherkasova

  • Biography
Surrounding world is the main source of inspiration for me. I have always been impressed by the immediacy of ordinary experience, and throughout my development as a painter, I’ve worked to represent that as accurately as possible, trying to capture the raw essence of the familiar and revealing a depth and wonder hidden in everyday life and often overlooked. I believe that true beauty lies a not in certain ideal, but in the natural flow of life, in its variability and imperfection and therefore in painting I don’t seek a perfect gesture but utmost expressive, flexible and metaphorical language. I enjoy exploring the multiple possibilities of material, applying the paint with broad brushes in a loose and expressive style or experimenting with different textures, creating a multi-layered relief. I allow a painting to evolve organically, embracing happy accidents and unexpected results as they are opportunities for new creative solutions. I love when the work feels spontaneous and alive and try to evoke emotional responses that go beyond the surface. I work in all major classical painting genres, such as still life, landscape, portrait and figure painting, but whatever I paint, it is extremely important for me to perceive the object itself as a part of the living world, not barely a motive for formal searches. Through my art, I hope to guide others to engage with the world in a more profound and nuanced way.
