  • Biography
    Drawing on so much figurative artistic production of the italian and european twentieth century, Sonia Sist creates works with sometimes suspended atmospheres, other times dark, always with a captivating charm. (…) Warm and enveloping light tends to negate the temporal dimension, as if to give us the sense of a metaphysical suspension. Curtains of dusty damask open to reveal generous nudes (…). The painter's atelier becomes the place for the negation of all that is not essential, welcoming the images of this dialogue of the artist with her(inner)self. (…) And while we are spectators of this uninterrupted conflict between generation and destruction, between memory and oblivion, the figures are a prelude to a saving and regenerating dream. Not infrequent are the tributes to the great masters of the past, from Baskst to Khnopf, from Von Stuck to Schad and then to Donghi, Casorati, Marussig (…), almost monochromatic enamels.

    The artist's recurring source is vintage photography, while no less important is the habit of studying from life, betrayed by the anatomical accuracy and by the perspective and drawing rigor. Sonia Sist involves and excites for the high quality and coherence of her work.
