About Simone Romani

  • Biography

I started out as a portrait painter at a very young age, later shifting my interest to nature. I thus began an artistic journey in which the study of painting merged with the discovery of the world around me, making me discover beauty in every corner. I see nature as a mystery to be unravelled, and painting as the best tool to do so. I dream of being able to create works that, with essential brushstrokes, can tell the story of the nature I am experiencing at that moment, in its entirety. But my paintings are not just landscapes. They are compositions that tell stories, moods or situations transfigured in nature. I paint mainly en plein air, using oil colours. The setting of the work is classical, figurative, perspective. The choice of colours is post-impressionist, with pure colours, often juxtaposed, mixed directly on the canvas.. The execution is quick and unhesitating, typically expressionist. There is no drawing, painting is drawing. I like to paint on paper and then transfer to canvas. As a separate discipline, I am also interested in portraiture, which I have always done, also on commission.
