About Shirley Southern

In my early years I was lucky to have a keen interest in both art and science. Choosing science, I became a fully fledged scientist spending many hours looking down the microscope. The structures, patterns, shapes of cells, chromosomes, fibres, viruses all highly coloured with different dyes satisfied the art side of me. Now I'm a full-time self taught artist, continuing to explore colour, texture, pattern on canvas.
