  • Biography
    British artist Sheri Gee has been developing her art practice over the last 20 years, after graduating from the Kent Institute of Art and Design with a degree in Illustration.

    Her current work is usually rooted in the figurative and portraiture, having spent many years experimenting with different materials and mediums at life drawing sessions. Sheri finds inspiration in the world around her - from commuting to London, bringing up a young family and living in Sussex.

    Sheri was one of 21 finalists in the 2018 Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize and was selected for the 2018 Society of Women Artists annual exhibition at the Mall
    Galleries, London. Most recently Sheri was longlisted in the 2019 Jackson's Art Open Prize with one of her seed packet paintings. Sheri also exhibits with several art groups in her locality and has had pieces in several London exhibitions.

    Sheri's painting 'Shasta Daisy seed packet' was longlisted in this painting prize. Her painting was one of 421 longlisted works from a total of 5366 entries.

    Finalist in the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize

    Selected from 200 entries, my painting 'Journey Home' gained me status as a finalist in the 2018 Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize, with exhibition at Burgh House, Hampstead from 25-29 July 2018.

    'Journey Home' is a small oil painting featuring a mother and daughter wearily journeying home by train.

    Pintar Rapido London is the UK’s biggest plein air painting competition and exhibition. It is a weekend celebration of art and the London cityscape and is open to professional, semi-professional and amateur artists. The challenge is to "capture the spirit of the city in a day" and it inspires hundreds of artists to do so as well as engaging and thrilling the public. The following day the public can view and buy these unique visions of London at the Pintar Rapido exhibition.

    Event: Townscape 2016

    Dates: 27 May 2016 - 3 Sep 2016

    Venue: East Grinstead Museum, East Grinstead, West Sussex

    Example art group are set to respond to a local museum collection during the summer of 2016. In the wake of Townscape 2014, a £40,000 community art initiative in East Grinstead, artists have further purloined their town’s resources to produce new work of national significance.

    Townscape 2016 comprises of two exhibitions showing simultaneously in town centre venues. At the town museum, a team of professional artists who call themselves ‘Example’ will present eight individual responses to the collection. The resulting exhibition includes sculpture, printmaking, photography, painting and stitch. In the town library, students from local secondary schools will exhibit their own version of the project.

    Sheri Gee will be taking reference from a school cross stitch sampler from 1878, which has inspired a new series of paintings.

    Sheri Gee will show a number of portraits at the Jubilee Community Centre. The portraits will be of people in the town, either connected to and known by the artist, or with interesting links to East Grinstead.
