About Sheila Elias

  • Biography
My work is about the layers of life and art history, seeking in it a connection between art aesthetics and social consciousness.

American sensibilities have influenced my life, the hues of my country found in the colors of my art. I like to bring an awareness of new directions and individual inventiveness. Through life experience, I incorporate visual, emotional, and psychological impressions and feed them into my art.

Although I am primarily known for my multimedia paintings, I recently decided to venture into the realm of technology, by creating a new vision on my iPad. With the use of my finger I began to discover a new way of painting: through pixels. My studio has grown to include digital work. Becoming a name in the Apple community has only strengthened my conviction to continue exploring in this new medium.

    Event: Secret Gardens – Revisited

    Dates: 15 Dec 2019 - 26 Jan 2020

Venue: The Botanical Gardens, Miami Beach, FL

SECRET GARDENS is a celebration of the joy of creativity and the splendor of nature, in spite of its many possible meanings, this new collection opens up to the subject spectrum to a new repertoire of reflections and emotions intersecting the labyrinth of the human condition and the possibilities dictated by each epoch. In other words, these new works are Elias’ answer to immediate stimuli. Once more, the artist directs her passion to that constantly renewed challenge, constituting the main sign of contemporary man’s identity. Standing the test of time, these paintings were part of three exhibitions including The Lowe Art Museum, The Art & Culture Center in Hollywood, FL and the New England Center for Contemporary Art from August 1997 thru June 1998. Now, 20 years later, this exhibition is revisited at the beautiful Miami Beach Botanical Gardens reminiscing the brash bursts of flowers and busily textured passages of collage crowding the paintings and drawings in this series.

    Event: Interference

    Dates: 12 Jul 2019 - 4 Aug 2019

Venue: San Pietro in Atrio, Lake Como, Italy

Last year I was invited to be in a show in Lake Como, Italy where I was the only woman and the only American. The show was about technology and the relationship that we have with it and how artists would convey that into our imagery. The show’s title was called “Interference” and it was put together by Swiss curator Roberta Gonella. 8,000 people came and it got covered by over 40 newspapers in Europe.

    Event: Painted Pixels

    Dates: 17 May 2018 - 3 Sep 2020

Venue: The Lowe Art Museum, Miami, FL

Sheila Elias’ works in Painted Pixels come in and out of focus, buoyed by waves of colors, as one engages with them. Though abstract, many pay homage to her own body of figurative work as well as favored literary masterpieces that inspire her. Created on the iPad and printed on aluminum, whose luster and reflective qualities echo the effect of an illuminated screen, Elias’s works enable viewers to enjoy the so-called “liminal” or in-between spaces.

This exhibition is made possible and supported by the general membership, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, and the Miami-Dade Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

    Event: eye-Pad

    Dates: 15 Nov 2016 - 10 Feb 2017

Venue: Silvana Facchini Gallery, Wynwood, Miami, FL

Known for my paintings and photography, I took my talents to a new dimension with my latest series “eye-Pad”. The stunning art takes a new level as I created her masterpieces on her iPad. Technology is an element that is slowly infiltrating all aspects of our lives and I took advantage of this to optimize my creativity. All works executed on iPad.
