Biography
Seruni Bodjawati is an Indonesian visual artist and painter. She graduated from the Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta and has received numerous awards in the field of art and culture. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums across various cities in Indonesia, as well as in countries across Asia, Europe, and America.
A brief overview of her achievements and background:
Early Start: Seruni began painting at a young age and won various children’s painting competitions in Yogyakarta and Central Java since she was three years old.Education: She pursued formal education in Fine Arts, completing her Bachelor’s degree (S1) in Painting and her Master’s degree (S2) in Art Creation at the Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta.
Diverse Artistic Endeavors: Seruni has consistently explored various artistic avenues. Apart from painting, she has produced indie art films, created Javanese Wayang theater, managed art projects, written essays on visual arts, and taught at universities.
Literary Contributions: She co-authored the book “Perempuan-Perempuan Menggugat” (Women Demanding Justice), a historical account of Indonesian women, alongside activist Esthi Susanti Hudiono. The book is part of the official collection at the National Library of Australia and various Indonesian libraries.
Awards and Recognitions:
Best Painting Awards: She received the Best Painting Award during the Dies Natalis celebrations at the Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta for two consecutive years (2010 and 2011).
Inspiring Woman: In 2011, Seruni was recognized as one of Indonesia’s Young Heroes by Aplaus The Lifestyle Indonesia for her achievements as an international artist.
Inspirational Woman to Others: Lions Club Organization honored her with the La Femme Awards.
Honorary Award: The Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, bestowed an Honorary Award upon her.
Exhibitions: She has exhibited her artwork more than 65 times in various locations, including Indonesia, Germany, the United States, Italy, England, France, Hungary, Singapore, and more.
