About Sergey Akopov

Born in 1956 in Tbilisi, Georgia. From 1993 to 2022 l lived in Moscow. Since 2023 I have been living in France. How would I describe the style of my paintings? I would call it figurative symbolism with elements of naive art. This is the style that most helps me express my ideas accurately. Inspiration for me comes from the process of working on a painting. There is not always a simple and easy way of achieving this. There are many obstacles which need to be overcome in a search for the right format/technique. The themes of my paintings are always based on my personal experiences, impressions, and sudden sparks of an idea. The technique of oil painting gives me the necessary plasticity of form. Painting for me is a personal conversation with the viewer. There is a child in every person who looks at the world with wide eyes, and this world is amazing.
