About Sava Draganov

  • Biography

"Sava’s wall mounted reliefs and masks show his mastery of woodcarving and his deep interest in both nature and ethnic artefacts and traditions. The combination makes for compelling viewing."                                 Alex Heath, Artfinder leading curator

Sava Draganov, a proficient Bulgarian sculptor and adept woodcarving artist, navigates the realms of artistic creation with finesse, producing captivating art objects, intricate algorithmic abstract forms, distinctive home design artifacts, and exquisite wooden wall art. Born in 1984 amidst the sublime environs of Tryavna, nestled in the Balkan Mountains and enveloped by the grandeur of deep oak and pine forests, Draganov's artistic journey embarked upon a trajectory that seamlessly marries tradition with avant-garde experimentation. Having attained his master's degree in art woodcarving and wood sculpture from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia in 2007, Draganov has ceaselessly honed his craft, driven by the quest to imbue the rich natural forms of diverse wood materials with delicately crafted floral landscapes and postmodern geometric reliefs. His profound appreciation for tradition coexists harmoniously with a penchant for uninhibited experimentation, where he skillfully intertwines form with a modernist sensibility and a contemporary non-figurative touch, rendering his artistic style inherently avant-garde.

Since 2017, Draganov has cultivated a collaborative partnership with the Bulgarian Integrated Artists Gallery, a union that has precipitated the successful global dissemination of over 50 original artworks. This collaboration serves as a crucible for the evolution of Draganov's artistic lexicon, manifesting in the refinement of his style, skills, thematic exploration, creative ingenuity, final execution, and the meticulous presentation of his oeuvre. A testament to the international resonance of his work, Draganov's pieces grace private collections across the EU, Australia, USA, Canada, Japan, the Middle East, and the UK.
