  • My name is Sandra Janjatovic. I am a visual artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia, who is creating different mediums and types of art. Therefore, I best describe myself as a multidisciplinary artist. I work mostly with traditional drawing and painting, but I also work in the field of digital illustrations, animation, photography, and even sculpture.

Most of the time, my main visual element is a simple line. When intertwining, these lines transpose (play) between full and empty space in order to create the illusion of the full form. In my artworks, the line slowly went from being the only constructing element to being the element that is contrasting the painted parts on the canvases on some paintings.

The inspiration for my works can be traced to nature, but not the nature that stands against the notion of the city - the nature that is universal, whose laws apply and operate in the entire universe. These laws are universal and are much larger and much more important than us and we have just begun to understand them in their broad field of action. In my artworks, I thrive towards the comprehensive and universal ideas, which are aesthetically clear and simple, based on a small number of elements, which create all physical forms of nature.

In the process of conceptualization of my artwork, I always gravitate towards general description, which will not limit itself only to one natural occurrence, but rather on a single rule or occurrence which is applicable and present in different discourses. In that way, the artworks stay more open for interpretation, which on the other hand gives a chance to the public to incorporate their experiences in the artwork. This brings a deeper interaction between the spectators and the artwork. The artworks do not present absolute and unquestionable truth, but a basis and structure on which, later on, the spectator builds meaning.
