About Rob Kitney

  • Biography
Working as a musician for the past several years, I have turned my artistic hand to creating and digitally laying out album artwork, and designing posters in Photoshop. This work rekindled my desire to create visual art. Having lived most of my life by the sea, yet finding myself somewhat landlocked as a result of a recent move to Birmingham, I have found the sea to be an enduring subject; the ever changing light and colour forming the inspiration for many of my works. While some of my paintings are based firmly on photographs, most are not attached to a specific image; the composition and colour instead being guided by the memory or vision of a time, place and atmosphere. Working predominantly in acrylics, I apply paint quickly and impulsively, mixing colours and manipulating the paint on the canvas before it dries. I have found this method to be beneficial in helping me to trust my eyes and not linger over decisions or be overly cautious.
