About Robin Kerr

  • Biography
The inspiration for my art is everyday experience including the fact that I am an accidental immigrant, originally from New Zealand, now a long term Portland, Oregon, USA resident. Being an immigrant puts you in a sort of limbo because you always feel slightly outside of things. I think my art reflects that. There is always some sort of mash up; large bold shapes and tiny scribbly lines, blocks of dominant color and specks of contrast. It’s as though I am positive sometimes but must guess othertimes. Certainly making art helps me process this state. I like to abstract objects and scenes. Vessels, flowers, rugs and water scenes are frequent muses. They are timeless and universally recognized. Often you can imagine these elements interacting with each other, moving around, having conversations, even wandering off, when you aren't watching. There is a sub-text. In any event, I hope my work makes people smile, think, look again, and make their own stories about what they see.
