About Robert Kerr
Biography
Born and educated in London, where I trained and worked as a professional photographer, I specialised in portraiture, fashion and commercial photography, as well as cinematography, for over a decade.
After further study and relocating to New Zealand where I worked as a lecturer, I took to painting and soon realised there was a way to merge my love of photography with that of paint as a medium. Years of experimenting with materials enabled me to further develop my interest in the arts and visual media. I gained immense personal satisfaction and fulfilment in painting as well as small-scale furniture making, finding I was able to express myself through the use of colour and shape in both disciplines.
My works are all hand painted on large canvases, using a variety of techniques and materials including acrylics, oils, gold leaf and resin. Both portraiture and landscape painting have always been a fascination. While my paintings of iconic figures celebrate my love of music, landscapes provide some tranquility to my otherwise busy world.
