About Robert Wells

  • Biography
I paint because I love to paint. I find both the natural and man made worlds endlessly beautiful and inspiring. The more I draw and paint the more I see this. Developing my artistic skills is something I constantly strive for and I am fascinated by the huge variety of art and techniques around. I enjoy sharing this enthusiasm by showing and discussing my work with others. I do this via Cambridge Open Studios and local art groups. Selling on Artfinder would allow me to expand this globally. I was born in Dumfries in the South West of Scotland and lived in that area until 2010 when I moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire. As an enthusiastic artist for many years I attended summer schools and various courses studying under Melville Brotherston, Jack Skinner and Sandy Robb. I am presently a member of Haddenham Art Group and now that I am retired, have more time to devote to my art. I am a full member of Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society and served on their committee for many years, part of this time as Vice President and am now also a member of Ely Art Society. I have exhibited regularly in both the above societies’ exhibitions as well as at many local events and from time to time undertake commissions from customers who have previously viewed my art. My medium is chosen depending on my mood and the subject with bold colourful images being produced. I enjoy sketching and painting outdoors and am often seen in and around Ely with my easel or sketch book. Even on holiday I sneak my sketchbook into my luggage and the resulting work is often commented upon favourably by visitors to the studio. I prefer to work "en plein air" and as such most of my early work was of Scottish scenes whereas now it is mainly fenland and historic buildings.
