Biography
Richard Wentworth (B. 1947, Samoa) is an artist, curator and teacher currently working in London. He at the Hornsey College of Art and the Royal College of Art, as well as holding positions as within Goldsmiths College, the Ruskin School of Art and head of the Sculpture department at the Royal College between 2009-2011.
Wentworth is primarily known for his work within both photography and sculpture, in which he takes focus on industrial landscapes and everyday objects, looking into the sculptural potential. He is associated with the New British Sculpture Movement, in which he explored the juxtaposition of objects and materials that do not belong together. His works include the Series Making Do and Getting By, in which he photographs of seemingly mundane occurrences and using them to examine uncanny situations and the amusing oddities of improvised events.
His curatorial work includes oule to Braid (2009) for Lisson Gallery, Thinking Aloud (1998-99) for Hayward Gallery in Kettle’s Yard, and working with Fischli & Weiss, Gabriel Orozco and Patricia Martin in Aprendiendo Menos (Learning Less) (2000).
