About Rene de la Cruz
Biography
René Juan de la Cruz-Napoli is a contemporary artist and
designer based in Brooklyn, known for his video art and optical graphics.
His current on-going multimedia art project is named
“PLAY NYC”. By enhancing the ordinary into extraordinary visual
experiences, his live manipulated video art broadcasts to the people’s minds
what catches his eye and the ways his imagination reacts, when he navigates
NYC. Lately this concept has evolved into the art of immediacy during his
daily subway commuting using his iPhone creating optical graphics and
manipulations of pictures that express his point of view of the city. His latest multimedia artistic work has been
exhibited at The (S) Files, El Museo
del Barrio’s Biennale, Manhattan 2011-12 and is
currently part of a traveling collective show called “Imago Mundi” from the Fondazione Benetton of Treviso.
"Perfect Imperfections" is a convergent series of digital art designed with vector based "Illustrator" software, and then printed by hand. It is when silkscreen printed that these pieces acquire a new dimension of motion optical illusions. The way ink feels to the eye is totally different from the computer monitor screen and from glicee high resolution printing. It is even better yet when colors overlap, as texture and transparencies are created.
