About Peg Morris

  • Biography

Painter and printmaker Peg Morris explores dilapidation, decay, solitude, erosion and changing light conditions; processes which transform our surroundings.  Fascinated by process, Peg uses different media; drawing, painting, etching, collagraphy, monotype, lithography and artist’s books.  Her work is rooted in observation and drawing underpins all the images she makes. The places depicted in her work, whether interior or exterior, are quiet and contemplative; the composition leading the viewer through the space.

Peg’s studio is at her home in Gomshall in the Surrey Hills.  A member of the Southbank Printmakers Gallery and the Printmakers Council, she also works at Kew Studio where she is the Print Studio Manager and teaches etching. Her work is held in the V&A archive, the PMC Archive and in private collections across the UK and abroad.  She has exhibited in the RA Summer Exhibition 2022 and 2024, the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2020, 2021 and 2023, the RBSA Print Prize (awarded 2nd prize in 2024), the Ironbridge Print Prize 2023 and 2024, Compton Verney Print Fair in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 and at the Mall Galleries with the SGFA in 2021 and 2024 and the RBA in 2023 and 2024, the RI in 2023 and the NEAC in 2024.  She has been nominated for Surrey Artist of the Year three times.

Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Print Prize Second prize £500 sponsored by GMC.

The RBSA Print Prize is a biennale exhibition, which celebrates all forms of print making and supports artists from across the UK and further afield. With a significant number of print works held in the RBSA Collection, print making is firmly intertwined with the history of the RBSA and many current Members and Associates work primarily in this media.

With both contemporary and traditional techniques and approaches on display, including screen printing, linocut, monoprint, etching, woodcut, lithography, and dry point, the exhibition is a wonderfully diverse show championing a medium that is often overshadowed by others.

This year’s exhibition was selected by:

Ros Ford – painter and printmaker, member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, London, RWA Academician
Jenny Mason-Gunning – specialist printmaker at Ironbridge Printmakers
Laura J. Onions – lecturer in Fine Art at Wolverhampton School of Art, specialising in printmaking

    Event: Land, Sea and Sky

Venue: The Ropewalk Gallery, Barton-On-Humber, North Lincolnshire

A Printmakers Council group exhibition featuring original printmaking from members of the PMC. The theme for this exhibition ‘Land, Sea, and Sky’ was chosen because its wide-ranging associations might be interpreted in many different ways, and in part because the theme was seen to have some relevance to the location of The Ropewalk Gallery. No size limit was imposed and artists were invited to respond to the theme in as wide a way as possible, to be as traditional or as innovative as they wished both in process and format. The final selection includes three dimensional and large format pieces as well as more conventional prints. Printmakers Council was founded in 1965 by a group of prominent printmakers to raise the profile of printmaking as an art form and to provide an exhibition society for members. For over fifty years PmC has continued to pursue these aims through a rolling programme of exhibitions, lectures and practical workshops.

Event: Land, Sea and Sky

Dates: 26 Oct 2019 - 1 Dec 2019

Biography
