About Paula Boyd-Barrett

  • Biography

I’m an artist - printmaker based in the London area. A few years back I decided to refresh my skills on a part time course. I’ve become totally addicted to screenprinting again and haven’t looked back!
My screenprints reflect my penchant for gaudy colour plus a passion for wildlife and our natural world. As a child I was encouraged by my grandad to appreciate nature and he taught us the names of all the flora and fauna we saw. I still spend many hours walking in the countryside - these days I’m on the lookout for potential subjects for my prints!
My aim is to portray the quirky characteristics of the creatures I’ve been lucky to encounter. Working from my sketches and own photos as reference, I create detailed artwork which is then transferred onto a silkscreen to create a stencil. Each colour requires a different stencil to be prepared. I then pull the inks through the silkscreen onto the paper below using a squeegee. I use this method to produce my images at a local college in London. All my prints are hand printed by me and produced in small editions.
