About Patricia Murray

  • Biography

I have had a long career as a professional illustrator having gained a degree in that specialism.  For the last few years, however, I have had the time to return to painting for my own pleasure.  I love to paint dance in all its colour and movement.  Flowers and the English landscape are also favourite subjects.

More recently I have returned to more imaginative themes, often based on fantasy or literature.

I work across all media.  I love the vividness and transparency of inks but also the texture and build up of layers when using acrylics or oils.  I am currently experimenting with mixed media, especially collage.

Mood and atmosphere are all important to me.  When painting dance I try to choose poses that exactly express the spirit of that particular dance form.

My influences are varied.  I love the nineteenth century illustrators, representational painters like Whistler and Singer Sargent, and abstract painters like Rothko.

I have exhibited widely and have been featured in the Society for All Artists magazine.
