About Olivia O'Carra
Biography
I am living in an area of exceptional beauty surrounded by lakes and mountains and since taking early retirement from a teaching career I spend as much time as possible out in the National Park hiking and sketching. It is the wonderful scenery of my area that inspires most of my work.
My paintings usually begin life as small pieces worked plein air.
From these sketches and photos taken on site I work my larger studio paintings.
My style is contemporary realism.
I paint in a traditional manner starting with thin paint gradually building up in layers using glazing and scumbling and finally thicker paint layered on in an impasto fashion with brush or knife to give texture and depth
I also paint portraits of people and animals and the occasional still life.
