Biography
"Stone is alive and has a soul. I never ignore it and its gravity as well. I try to give each artwork the feeling of lightness."
Ognyan Chitakov, a luminary in the realm of Bulgarian sculpture, perceives stone not merely as inert matter but as imbued with vitality and soul. Rooted in the tenets of philosophical contemplation, Chitakov's reverence for stone is palpable, as he endeavors to impart each artwork with the ethereal essence of lightness, transcending the corporeal weight of its physical form.
A scion of the National Academy of Arts in Bulgaria, Chitakov's artistic journey finds its locus in the picturesque town of Asenovgrad, where his familial abode and studio converge. Sculpture, for Chitakov, transcends the boundaries of mere artistic expression, serving as a conduit for profound philosophical inquiry and existential reflection. In his hands, sculpture becomes a dialectical medium, weaving together strands of form, space, function, architecture, design, engineering, and skill into a harmonious tapestry of creative expression. Within the pantheon of sculptural mediums, Chitakov finds solace and inspiration in the ancient sanctity of stone, viewing it not only as a material substrate but as an embodiment of Earth's primordial essence. His oeuvre, replete with monumental sculptures and abstract statuary, adorns galleries, parks, and public spaces throughout the nation, serving as testaments to his transcendent artistic vision.
Since 2017, Chitakov's collaboration with the Bulgarian Integrated Artists Gallery has burgeoned into a veritable symphony of artistic innovation and global recognition. This symbiotic partnership has catalyzed the worldwide dissemination of over 200 original artworks, elevating Chitakov to the zenith of artistic acclaim. His accolades, including the esteemed British website Artfinder's bestseller of the 2022 year award and the French website Singulart's best sculptor of 2023 award, underscore the indelible imprint of his artistic prowess upon the contemporary cultural landscape. In the annals of artistic achievement, Chitakov's legacy endures as a testament to the enduring symbiosis between artistry and transcendence.
