Biography
Noc has worked with thousands of residents and students , frequently in collaboration with other artists, in community art workshops to create site-specific, temporal installation works involving painting, as well as to create canvases that residents can take home; her first community project being a facade art co-created with residents in 2015 in celebration of SG50.
She received a 9-week apprenticeship to political cartoonist MIEL Dengcoy from SPH in under the Noise Apprenticeship Programme 2006, and was part of the troupe of performance artists in Vertical Submarine's Abusement Park, an installation-performance artwork staged in the Singapore Art Museum for the Night Festival in 2010.
Notable commercial and community works of Noc include a series 41 digital paintings and drawings to simulate Georgette Chen's paintings in progress in “The Worlds of Georgette Chen”, a three-part film series by The National Gallery and Channel News Asia (2014); as well as a series of site murals in Sengkang General Hospital (2020) created together with Fish Jaafar and Nur Iman, working under the artist Barry Yeow.
On her personal painting, Noc experiences ephemeral images in her head in moments of introspection and emotionality, which are frequently stuck with her until she records them down on canvas. The subject matter of her work is a collection of these epiphanies - the transformation from imagery to image a sublimation of disquieting thought. Her paintings borrow their form from Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, while in essence remain an exploration into the complex spectrum of human thought and emotion.
