Event: Where the land meets the sea
Dates: 29 Nov 2017 - 31 Jan 2018
A Selection of plein air paintings of the beautiful Cork landscape around crosshaven...
These paintings evolve from my fascination with the interactions between the light, wind, sea and the landscape. Some of the paintings portray the effects of wind and the rushing restless cloudscapes of the sky, while others focus on moments of sheer stillness and the quiet calm sea. In each work I try to capture the magic relationships that occur between these elements so that an ordinary scene can be transformed in so many different ways depending on the play of light, wind etc..
I want to catch and immortalise these moments of wonder and beauty that may otherwise fade and be lost in a fleeting moment, The meeting of the land and sea is an ever changing subject that constantly re invents itself…..

Biography
In my work I attempt to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that my surroundings or subject arouse in me.
I graduated from NCAD with an Honours degree in 1995 and have worked as an artist ever since, exhibiting extensively both internationally & nationally – The Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, The Guinness Hopstore and the RHA Gallery among others and my work can be found in many important collections nationally and Internationally including the OPW.
Recently I took part in the SKY ARTS LANDSCAPE ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2016 series and totally enjoyed my days painting at Wray Castle in the Lake District, England, although I didn’t make the Semi Finals of the show, I was offered a Solo show in Durham in April 2017…
My work & I have been filmed for an Tourism Ireland promotion based on the delights of Irish Weather…so exciting times ahead..
I am also featured in the April’s 2017 edition of Embossmag, an Interntional digital Arts and Culture magazine
My Landscape paintings evolve from my fascination with the relationships between light, wind and the landscape. Some of the paintings portray the effects of wind on the landscape and the changing cloudscapes of the sky, while others focus on moments of stillness and quiet contemplation. In each work I attempt to capture the transformation of an ordinary scene caused by the presence of the elemental powers- light, wind and the earth, to articulate and record in paint a moment of weather-driven drama or luminescent beauty that may otherwise fade and be lost…….
For me paint and the act of painting…creating a world or story on a canvas that can live and grow both in my head or the viewer’s imagination is the magic and purpose of my work. A painting should suggest/conjure up a whole of possibilies that can make each viewing a new experience.
