About Ihor Nesmiianov

Was born in 1949. 1977 graduated from National Academy of Art and Architecture, Kiyv. From 1982 - became member of Ukrainian Artist Union. Main directives of art - theatre scene/set designer including costume design, artist - in unique style. Since 1975 is collaborating with different theatres and created stage designs and costumes for over 80 stage plays. Since 1977 took part in more than, 55 art exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad - - 1983 Stage Design Prague Quadrennial - 1989 Russian Art Exhibition, Chicago USA - 1991 Ukrainian Artists Exhibition, Milan-Torino Italy - 2009 Solo exhibition, Eindhoven Netherlands - 2010 «Bridges and other communications» exhibition at the patent establishment, Hague, Netherlands - 2022 Ukrainian Art Week, Bruges Belgium - 2022 Solo exhibition, Isola Slovenia Paintings are located at the Ukrainian State Department Fund of Art, Ukrainian Artists National Fund, Ukrainian State Museum of Theatre and Musical Art, and private collections across Europe and USA. Lived in Kiyv, Ukraine, but after the beginning of war was evacuated to Europe. All my life as an artist I have combined painting and working in the theater. As a scenographer, I created around 80 theater productions. This experience profoundly influenced my art. As a stage and costume designer, I think about the clothes and costumes as part of the created image, sometimes false, always a mask. However, in my paintings, the figures are always nude, human bodies in motion, representing what is most essential and divine about human life. Created over a period of several decades, my paintings can be put in two main cycles – “Origin” and “Path”. “Origin” is about Woman and Water, the source of life. “Path” is about the complexity of life, the battle between Good and Evil, people's dreams, fears and hopes.
