About Charmaine Hall

  • Biography
I have been a professional artist and teacher my entire career. I started drawing well before school age and in university started with art history with a major in Medieval symbolism in Germany. I will go to any museum about anything and highly recommend the Dali Museum in Florida for one of the lesser know greats in the US. I like to paint on site in oils. I put in the animals, people and symbols that relate to the place I am working. I include the history and symbolism using ancient myths and legends from around the world. This is because I have spent my life enjoying the making of connections between all manner of things. My painting collection, Hot in New Mexico, is in the Big Woods, hideout of Johnny Ringo and Billy the Kid, among others. I also still love cartooning and drawing in general see The Coffeecan Club on Amazon. My silk screen prints take 6 months to a year to complete because I make dozens of stencils. This is why they have a painterly quality.  If you are interested in smaller sized giclees of a piece, I work with a family business that only does archival limited editions for me. Just give me a shout .

I believe in the promotion of world literacy through the arts. There are so many scientists making art that teaches us physics, biochemistry, and many other concepts and techniques based in computer sciences. It is an exciting time to be an artist. But I like to remember how it all began, with a burnt stick in a cave. So for 2017 I will say this: I feel fortunate to have been nominated for awards for various book covers because the publishers wanted real art, not a digital hard sell, to represent their books. And now I have my own books out there with hope for our future as a planet. Good luck to all of us.
