About Natalja Bolshakova
Biography
I have been brought up in academic drawing tradition, but I was always a bit impatient and wanted to bring spontaneity into my work. Movement, energy, emotion could be always found in my sketches and life drawing and still are my driving force.
I allow intuition to enter and let the artwork itself guide me through the process.
After moving to London I engaged more and more in printmaking. I enjoy the versatility and freedom of image manipulation that can be achieved through the process, rather than the ability to reproduce one work. usually I choose an image to work with and I explore its transformation through different colours, blends, backgrounds and collage creating series of work where most prints are one-off and only some are printed in 2 or 3 copies.
Main themes of my work are related to female imagery. I enjoy life drawing and see female body as an eternal source of inspiration, and I try to incorporate this experience into printed works through collage, paper and photo stencils, sometimes painting.
