About Nastia Fortune

  • Biography
Russian-born, NYC-based artist. Nastia was born in Zlatoust, Russia. A self-taught artist, she began painting at the age 12. By 17, she was receiving commissioned portrait work. She studied Linguistics & Translation at Chelyabinsk University where she developed a love of different cultures and an international scope.

After a year of travel to many of the artistic centers of the world (Prague, Paris, Barcelona, Dresden, Rome), Nastia settled in New York City to hone her style which can best be described as realistic symbolism.
Taking inspiration from Gustave Klimt and countryman Mikhail Vrubel, Nastia creates her own spin on the genre intertwining mythological and dreamy images imbued with intensely personal color schemes and structure that reflect her inner being.

“I see beauty all around. The inspiration to paint comes from my interpretation of the beauty I see in the world each day: faces (portraits are my main theme for paintings), nature’s different colors and shades, and the raw beauty of textures. In my paintings I aspire to express my feelings and emotions through the beauty I see. I love playing with the vibrant colors found in nature, and frequently, summery topics like bright and fleshy fruit, glistening seascapes, and the still lives that inhabit these worlds.
