  • Stapleford Granary One Man Show 'Storied Places' September 2023

    This body of work features 39 recent paintings including scenes from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge food trucks, punting, tourists, Lammas Land Pool, Cambridge Community Circus and Strawberry Fair. Although her subject matter varies, a merging of past and present plays a significant part in all of Tomkys’ work acting as shorthand for our cultural familiarities. It can be seen in a child wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt on a school trip or a group of Cambridge men in their uniform of Panama hats as the sun comes out. Each painting reflects a cinematic approach to her own interests in dynamic composition, nostalgia, and storytelling.

    Fitzbillies Exhibition Opening night - October 2024

    Such a delicious evening thanks to Fitzbillies! I couldn’t have imagined more. Thank you everyone who came to the private view and everyone who is going to come to the show at Fitzbillies, 15 King’s Parade, Cambridge UK…but do come quick, paintings are selling like hot cakes (pun intended) as of today, over half of the oil paintings are sold and I’m shockingly grateful!

    Although I keep a really tight palette and use only a few colours, I tend to hoard paints all the same. I've still got a couple from my Grandma which have to be at least 70 years old (the ingredients are probably banned by now but great colours all the same). I like to have them to hand on my dresser next to my easel.

    The greatest part of having my own full-time studio is the knowledge that I'll never have to put my paints away. Sadly, my two hounds, Toad and Gertie do still like to jump up for hugs so can often be identified by an oil paint line in green along their backs or on the tips of their tails.
