About Valerija Popova
-Born in 1996, Riga,Latvia. Currently living in Florence, Italy.
Painting and drawing figures in sensible, precise, crossover manner.
For the last years, she has been working and studying in I. Repin State Academy of Art in Florence, pulling the subjects of her paintings from a trove of found research consisting of life-modeling, sculptures and compositions. Often borrowing from idyllic snapshots of people caught in action, she translates her sketches into compositions on canvas, filled with soft, wispy brushstrokes. For her most recent solo show, “Protagonsti dell arte” at Bologna’s Sant’Isaia Gallery, Valerija focused on multiple textures, experimenting with colour layers and dynamic rhythms.
Working across painting, graphics and restoration; Valerija envisions topics that emphasize primal impulses and power struggles among human beings. “I am interested in line perfection and multiple layer technique interaction”. She notes that the art has an ambiguous relationship with power, feeling, sensuality, and one another. “I suppose they are all me—and they have strong emotional impact,” she offers.
Participated in different exhibition in UK, Italy and Latvia. Her works founds in private collections in Denmark, Italy, Latvia and UK. She has rich education background with variety voluntary participations and have diplomas from all over Europe.
