About Monica Green

  • Biography

My name is Monica, I am Danish but live in rural France with my husband and 3 rescue dogs called Gerrard, Patch and Bobby. The dogs are a constant source of inspiration for me. We take long walks in the countryside every day and this is also where I get my inspiration from. Every day I see sights that I would like to turn into a collage! We also have an abundance of wild birds that we feed in our garden so there is another source for inspiration .

I also love the sea and we regularly visit both the French coast, Cornwall and Denmark where we have family by the seaside. There is something really pleasing about capturing nice photographs and then turning them into a collage made of fabric or a painting.

I love sewing and I do lots of collages in textile but I also paint with acrylics.

From time to time, if I find a fun object I also do one off sculptures. They are usually quite whacky and fun!

All the textiles and objects I use I find at the markets here in France as well as at a great charity shop locally that supports abandoned dogs. A lot of the fabrics originate from clothes, curtains etc.

Sometimes I incorporate small objects in the collages and I use gouache, yarns and old vintage ribbons and jewellery. I really love the aspect of up-cycling things and give them a new lease of life.

I use my sewing machine for free-form embroidery but I also include some hand-embroidery and from time to time I do lino-cut printing on the collages too.

All my collages and paintings are made and shipped from my atelier in Dordogne, south west France.

Most of my work has a humoristic side to it as I enjoy making things that provoke a smile and make me feel happy. It would be wonderful if my collages and paintings could make other people feel happy too!

    Enjoy!
